Here's an interesting insight for you to chew on - a 2020 survey by Randstad Workmonitor Q1 found that 56% of Malaysian millennials want to start their own business - that’s potentially 2.96 million new businesses waiting to be launched.
This presents an interesting problem. If more than half of millennials want to start a business, that means there needs to be a LOT more money to fund all of them.
pitchIN - Malaysia's leading equity crowdfunding platform - has run 101 successful ECF campaigns to date, raising more than RM140 million for these startups. Putting this into perspective, funding 101 startups on pitchIN looks like we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of powering startups in Malaysia.
This begs the question:
1. How many of the more than half of millennials will actually be able to grow successful startups?
2. How many of the startups that pitchIN has successfully crowdfunded will be our region’s next unicorn?
3. Post fundraising, what issues will startups face in their pursuit of growth?
In our first ever BawaTanya session, join Sam Shafie and Kashminder Singh, co-founders of pitchIN, as they share their unadulterated views of what the startup ecosystem really looks like, the challenges that come with startup growth as well as their contribution towards the ecosystem with regards to their more recently announced fundraising plans.
